The Human Science Museum (HSM) of Southern Medical University is one of the largest life science museums in China. The HSM is to explore the connection between body and mind, and to raise the awareness to care for life and health while encouraging the development of a broader and more inclusive view of humanity. Pre-teens, teens, young adults and their families are the target audience for the HSM. The HSM strives to provide visitors with tools for better understanding healthy physical, mental and emotional habits, and with accessible pathways to understand great roles of medical technology in ensuring and promoting health.
With a total area of 1,400 m2, the HSM has more than 2,200 anatomical, pathological and biological specimens. The virtual digital anatomy technology is applied in the museum demonstration to present the latest development achievements in human anatomy and digital medicine, such as "digital people", to the public.
Part-time and full-time docents, who are trained and supported by staff scientists and educators, are employed with enthusiasm for leaning, as well as knowledge and communication skills.
The single reception has a maximum number of 80 people so that they maintain distance from others. It is recommended that primary school students above Grade Three should be led by their parents or teachers. Children below Grade Three are not recommended to visit the human biological specimens.
