The Southern Medical University (SMU) Library, originally founded in 1951, consists of the main campus library and Shunde campus library with a total floorage of 44,661 square meters. It provides 4,700 seats and over 40 discussion rooms for readers to use.

Guangzhou Campus

Together, the total collection of the library reaches more than 4.77 million volumes, which include world renowned journals on General Medicine and various medical disciplines such as Science Citation index (SCIE), Science, Nature, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Lancet, and British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Integrated into library systems, rich electronic resources, the laboratory guide, clinician test database, surgery videos and anatomical maps extend wider range and support better library services. The library has a wide influence in self-built databases, including SMU Academician databases, dissertation and theses full-text databases, and well-written and well-illustrated e-textbooks and reference works. 

The library isequipped with numerous modern facilities, including self-service, video display units, digital scanners, printers, Wi-Fi internet access and so on.

Shunde Campus

The library offers a conducive environment for study, research, and knowledge exchange. Apart from the circulation services, the library also offers information reference, medical information literacy training, up-date science and technology retrieval, achievement appraisal, intellectual property information service, inter-library loaning and document delivery.
