De Feng Academy contains three schools, including School of Public Health, School of Foreign Studies, and the First School of Clinical Medicine. It was founded in 2016 in Southern Medical University (SMU), aiming to inherit the educational spirit of ancient Chinese academies and to learn from the residential college systems in the western countries. In pursuit of the student-oriented and harmonious interaction between students and teachers, the SMU Academies strive to construct a new model of talent training based on the principle of self-governance. The connotation of this new model can be understood in three aspects: humanistic education, general education and whole-person education, whose purposes are to provide students with the essential foundation of a liberal arts education and the development of skills and character needed to become engaged citizens and visionary leaders in a global society.
