The National Flag Guard

The National Flag Guard of Southern Medical University (SMU), one of the earliest students’ organizations in the school, was founded in September, 2005. It is mainly responsible for the various protocol matters and ceremonial events such as the tasks of raising and lowering the national flag. It also arranges the flag raising ceremonies for other schools, exchanges experiences and publicizes the patriotism as off-campus jobs.

Each academic year, the National Flag Guard commonly performs more than 70 missions, including the flag raising and lowering daily and weekly (every college takes turn to participate in it every Monday), as well as on ceremonial and festival occasions (all colleges attend it). The National Flag Guard cooperates and coordinates with the neighborhood schools (Shunde No.1 Middle School, Rongshan Middle School,et al.) by offering the regular flag-raising service.

The National Flag Guard organizes the daily training sessions three times a week to practice the rank formation and to improve the physical fitness. The purpose of the drill is aimed at improving the body stability and reinforce the determination. In addition, the team-building activities are regularly carried out to enhance the team cohesion.
