Founded in 1989, the New Zealand School of Acupunture & TCM (NZSATCM) is the first higher institution specializing in acupuncture in New Zealand. It currently has campuses in two major cities, Wellington and Auckland. Given that education on Chinese medicine in New Zealand is still in its infancy, there are no Chinese acupuncture courses offered in the eight national universities in New Zealand except NZSATCM.
In 2011, SMU signed a memorandum of cooperation with NZSATCM, and a series of exchange programs have been launched since then like, for example, faculty & student exchanges in continuing professional education on TCM and exchanges on clinical practice, etc.
