In 2008, SMU established an inter-collegiate cooperative relationship with Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H) in Germany, and a variety of exchange activities have been conducted since then, such as joint scientific research, faculty visits and student exchanges. In May 2012, the two universities signed the “Cooperative Agreement on Exchange Students” and began to carry out the internship exchange activities and sent clinical medicine students to each other.
Founded in the early 1980s, UW/H is the first private university in Germany, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, an ancient and beautiful city of Cologne on the River Rhine. UW/H is known for its tradition of challenging rigid teaching and health care models, introducing new teaching methods and new research perspectives, and finding better and newer treatments to better serve patients.
