Southern Medical University (SMU) enrolled its first undergraduate students in Anesthesiology in September 2017, with 270 enrolled undergraduates and an enrollment of 40-60 students per year. The School of Anesthesiology was established on December 22, 2019 and is the first school in South China devoted to cultivating undergraduates in Anesthesiology. Led by the Department of Anesthesiology of Nanfang Hospital of SMU, the School is jointly run by more than 50 affiliated and non-affiliated hospitals. Presently we are staffed with a Guangdong provincial teaching team, winners supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education, national famous doctors, the most popular teaching teachers for residents, the leading medical talents of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Province Universities and Colleges Pearl River Scholars, good doctors of Guangzhou and outstanding young talents of Guangdong Province, etc. We have adopted “one-to-one” tutorial system, small class teaching, early clinical practice, early scientific research training and other elite training models to train excellent talents in Anesthesiology for the country.
