The School of Marxism, the former Teaching Research Section of Political Theories of PLA First Military Medical University, was established in July, 2008, as the first school for Marxism studies among Guangdong higher institutions. With Marxism theories as the authorized first level discipline to offer master degree programs and four provincial research and teaching platforms, it has witnessed the academic advantages of its disciplinary development over its peers’ of all the Chinese medical universities or colleges.
The School has 40 staff, including 37 faculty members and 3 administrative staff. The faculty includes 9 professors, 14 associate professors, and 14 lecturers. 76% of the teachers have obtained doctoral degrees. Two teachers are honored as Outstanding Teacher of Guangdong, and more than 20 faculty members serve national or provincial academic associations as principal experts.
The School consists of six sections, involving Marxism Fundamentals Section, Sinicized Marxism Section, Morality & Law Fundamentals Section, Modern & Contemporary Chinese History Section, Situation & Policy Section, and Political Theories for Graduates Section. It has three academic platforms, including Guangdong Research Center for XI Jinping’s New Era Socialist Thoughts with Chinese Characteristics (SMU Branch), Guangdong Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (SMU Branch), and Guangdong Teaching Research Center for Mao Zedong Thoughts and Characteristic Chinese Socialism.
