
School of Forensic Medicine, formerly known as Department of Forensic Medicine in School of Basic Medical Sciences of Southern Medical University, was founded on July 1, 2016. The School is home to the Department of Forensic Pathology, Department of Forensic Clinical Medicine, Department of Forensic Biologic Trace, Department of Forensic Evidence Science, and Department of Forensic Toxicology.

The School offers master degree program and doctor degree program in Forensic Medicine. The postdoctoral station for Forensic Medicine has been established. The undergraduate program in Forensic Medicine is the national construction site of first-class undergraduate specialty.

The School boasts experienced faculty and staff who are engaged in teaching and research. Currently, there are 33 full-time faculty members, including 7 full professors and 10 associate professors and 78% of them hold doctor degrees. 30% of the faculty have more than a year of experience of studying abroad. The School has one winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one member of National Ten Thousand Talents Plan, one recipient of the Young and Middle-aged Leading Talents in Science and Technology Innovation by the Ministry of Science and Technology, one member of Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contribution to National Health, one member awarded with Guangdong Excellent Teacher. The School also has excellent facilities, including a Guangdong provincial engineering technology research center and a Guangdong provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. Since 2016, the School has undertaken 12 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China with a total funding of over RMB 10.91 million. The faculty members have published over 130 SCI-indexed research papers.
