
Stomatological Hospital of Southern Medical University is one of the five earliest established clinical dental hospitals in our country, the largest specialist hospital in South China accountable for medical treatment, clinical teaching, scientific research, prevention and health care. Built in 1962 and transferred under the management of Southern Medical University on January 1, 2017, it has a staff of 1,129 people, including 168 with senior titles, 227 with master degrees, 114 with doctoral degrees or study abroad experience, 33 master’s supervisors and 4 doctoral supervisors. There are 459 comprehensive dental treatment tables, with an annual outpatient attendance of over 700,000, an annual outpatient surgery attendance of over 120,000 and an annual inpatient surgery attendance of over 1,000. The number of patients who received dental implants in the hospital each year is nearly 20,000, and the digital implant restoration technology is in the lead in China. The Department of Periodontics is home to one of the first national key clinical specialties. The Centre for Orthodontic and Maxillofacial Treatment and the Cleft Lip and Palate Treatment Centre are among the largest specialties with strongest technical expertise in China. The academic journal of dentistry sponsored by the hospital, Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases, is a core journal of Chinese science and technology.
