
Dermatology Hospital, formerly known as Pingzhou Hospital of Guangdong Province, was established in 1964 as a dermatology hospital integrating clinical diagnosis and treatment, clinical teaching and scientific research of dermatological venereal diseases, as well as undertaking business guidance for the prevention and treatment of venereal diseases and leprosy in the province. The hospital has over 20,000 square meters of business space, 120 beds available for incoming patients, and an annual outpatient attendance of more than 550,000. It boasts 401 faculty members, including 1 expert granted “special government allowances of the State Council”, 1 expert of Guangdong Leading Talent Program, 1 top young talent in the Pearl River Talent Plan, 7 medical experts in Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Young Talents Program, 56 with senior titles, 79 with intermediate titles, and 154 people with master’s degrees or above. There are 2 provincial key clinical specialties (Dermatology and TCM Dermatology), 20 outpatient department for special diseases and 7 featured treatment platforms. It is home to national drug clinical trial institution, Guangdong Provincial Sentinel Hospital of Adverse Reactions to Cosmetics, Guangdong Provincial Center for Telemedicine of Dermato-Venereology, Guangdong Provincial Center for Quality Control of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Diagnosis and Treatment, and Guangdong Provincial Center for Quality Control of STD Laboratory. The specialty alliance of Dermatology hospitals under the leadership of the Dermatology Hospital of SMU now has established 5 big scientific research platforms: experimental research center, clinical research center, skin bioinformatics technology platform, global health and STD research center and skin biosample library. Besides, it has established a South China – UNC STI Research and Training Center with a joint mobile post-doctoral training station in cooperation with the University of North Carolina.
