Founded in April 1950, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University was built out of the former Conghua Central Hospital and Jiangdu Hospital of Southern Medical University in September 2013. It is a comprehensive first-class hospital at Grade A integrating medical treatment, clinical teaching, scientific research and prevention and health care. The hospital covers an area of 102,400 square meters, with a building area of 80,600 square meters, 1,500 beds, 48 clinical and medical technology departments. The hospital has more than 1,800 staff, including 1,457 health technicians, among whom 25 have doctoral degrees, 209 have masters’ degrees, 34 have senior titles, and 110 have associate titles. As the treatment center for pregnant and women with critical conditions in Conghua District, the hospital undertakes the task of treating pregnant women with critical illnesses in Conghua and surrounding areas. The annual number of deliveries is nearly 10,000, accounting for 98% of the total delivery in Conghua. The success rate of rescuing pregnant women with critical conditions has reached 100% for five consecutive years. The hospital is a "National Demonstration Base for Rational Clinical Drug Use", a member of "South China Trauma Emergency Alliance", "Guangdong Health Promotion Demonstration Hospital", "International SOS Designated Cooperation Hospital", "Guangdong Scientific Research Center for Trauma Treatment -- Conghua Trauma Treatment Base" and so on.
